Call for contributions: special issue on failure in health

The Journal of Trial and Error was founded by history and philosophy of science students to showcase the productive role of errors in science. Whilst most academic journals publish the studies that “went right”, JOTE gives a space for answers to the question “what went wrong?” and for reflection on those errors.

Special issue on scientific failure and uncertainty in the health domain

Uncertainty is a fundamental reality of the health domain. Yet, the role of failure and trial & error have received insufficient systematic attention in (bio)medical science. In this call, we aim to inspire health professionals to take heed and critically reflect on the role of failure and trial & error in healthcare practices by sharing research. We want to explore how opening up on trial & error in health practice and medical research can be productive. What can we learn from failure? What do specific case studies showcasing the process of trial & error tell us about the best way to develop new treatments?

Deadline for contribution proposals: January 31st, 2023.
