Inauguration of art exhibition: Whispers from below by Bart Lutters
HHH member Bart Lutters will soon be inaugurating his art exhibition Whispers from below. Aside from his work as an artist, Bart is a junior physician and a PhD candidate in Medical History at the University Medical Center Utrecht (Netherlands), with a project on neurosurgery. Bart writes about this exhibition:
“In my artwork, I explore the history of medicine through art, seeking to visually convey the lived experience of patients of the past and the historical process of restoring these peoples’ voices in the present. In this age of rapid technological progress, human beings live longer and physically healthier lives than even. At the same time, we seem to become increasingly alienated from the profound human experiences of love, connection, suffering and dying. Why are we doing so much better, but feeling so much worse? In my mixed media artworks, I attempt to restore the whispers of humanity in a world that is becoming complex to the point of fracture.”
The opening of Whispers from Below will take place at EM Studio Gallery in Amsterdam (Witte de Withstraat 2) on Saturday January 20 from 17:00 onwards. The work will be exhibited from Friday January 19 until Thursday January 25 (the day of Bart’s PhD defense in Utrecht), so you are free to visit the gallery on another day, too.
