Vesalius Museum opening in 2026 – themes: science, healthcare and society
KU Leuven and UZ Leuven are collaborating to extensively renovate the Anatomical Theatre and Pathological Institute, transforming these unique buildings into the Vesalius Museum. This museum will showcase the rich heritage collections of both the university and the hospital, narrating the journey of science, healthcare, and society from their origins to their future.
Housed in the historic spaces of the Anatomical Theatre and Pathology Institute – once the scene of dissections and clinical research – Vesalius Museum offers a fascinating mix of science, heritage and art. A number of objects from HistarUZ’s rich medical heritage collection will have a place in the permanent display and thematic exhibitions.
There will be much more to experience at Vesalius Museum than just exhibitions. The former Helleputte Auditorium will be renovated and will serve as an auditorium for numerous events: from dance to theatre, from lectures to corporate events.
In addition, Vesalius Museum is developing workshops for various groups, from patient organisations to schoolchildren. For healthcare professionals, there is Vesalius Next, where the latest developments in healthcare, medicine and science are not only shown digitally, but where they can also experiment, test and learn hands-on.
